In this blog post I am going to share how reframing and experimenting being an important part for me to create something in a creative way. The module 3 Project Development encourages me to empathize with my followers. But sometimes, take a step back and shift my focus on something else can help me to came up with something new. I will reflect myself on how I apply concepts like reframing and pivoting to overcome some obstacles.
One of the main ideas from this module is the importance of the ability of how flexible I can be to pivot, especially when I face some difficulties while I am doing my digital artefact. In the early stage when I am trying to come up with some masterpiece idea, it stressed me out. This stage was a tough period for me, where I am trying to create something perfect which match my followers’ expectations, but I have no idea what to shoot. So, I decided to move into the prototyping phase.
Taking this advice to move into another stage, I had posted some photos on my Instagram story.
.
I wanted to see what scene and colour my followers will like. From the likes and reply of those stories, I came up with an idea of how I want my videos to be like. I started to go recce around and try out different camera angles and finally my first video came out. The caption of this video is “Needed a break”, it showcases me walking around in Wollongong. The outcome of the video was unexpected, since I am not actually satisfied with it when I done the editing work. But scrolling through the comment section, I am happy that my followers are enjoying the video.

After this stage, I became more confident with my videos and came out with more creative ideas for my upcoming videos. I realized that I am underestimating myself in the early stage, because I do not think that I am able to create something good all by myself. But with the prototyping stage, it is giving me some idea on how my final video should be.
The importance of this experiment stage as discussed in the module, is that this module led us to explore new solutions when we are facing difficulties. By shifting away from thinking something perfect myself to posting some prototype on my Instagram story, give me a chance to understand my audiences’ perspective. Going back to the empathize stage, I had a deeper understanding when it comes to emotional resonance which helped me to redefine my videos.
In conclusion, the reframing stage and experimenting stage were important in the process if creating my cinematic short videos. By temporarily stepping away from thinking by myself to collecting ideas by posting some prototype on Instagram. I can pivot and redefine my digital artefact in creative ways. Throughout these stages, I was able to make a cinematic short video which suits my follower’s taste.
